RUAH PARK

November 2022

Camping at Ruah Park was a great experience. If you have never camped before and want to try it for the first time then consider Ruah Park. This park is approximately 36 kilometres outside of Pretoria situated in a beautiful valley. Camping at Ruah Park will certainly get you away from the usual routine of spending too much time on your mobile phone and back into nature.

The park is roughly split into two sections. The first section located immediately on your right when you enter the camp and the second on the opposite side of the stream against the foot of a mountain. As you enter through the main gate proceed down the road into the valley on the left you will find the main lapa area and reception. Booking at Ruah Park is easy, and staff are very friendly. Accommodation at the park consists of camping stands and a self-service house.

There are 38 stands that are large and spacious, note that not all are perfectly level. This is not a campsite where you are going to feel crowded, and the corner stands provide for additional privacy. What is nice about this campsite is that each of the stands come with its own private bathroom and wash up area. Here you will also find the electrical outlets. There is a braaier provided at each of the stands, but we preferred using our own. You camp mostly on green lawn depending on the season.

All the stands have beautiful views of the surrounding Bobbejaansberge, and some of the dam that is situated at the far end of the resort. We camped at stand A which is located on the opposite side of the main camp at the bottom by the stream feeding the dam. These stands provide for additional privacy. There are small trees at most of the stands but they don’t provide significant shade. However, with the park nestled between two mountains you should have some shade, either during the mornings or late afternoons.

The tuck shop and main entertainment area is located at the Lapa. Here you will find tables and chairs where you can sit and have a drink or read a book. The swimming pool is adjacent to the lapa area. There are two interconnected swimming pools, a large pool, and a smaller shallower pool. The self-service house also has a pool. The best cell phone reception is at the lapa, there is intermittent signal in the rest of the camp; but you are camping at this park to get away from all the hustle and bustle of daily life so it should not bother you too much.

There are several short hiking trails where you can go for a walk in the adjacent mountains. Be careful of ticks, there are lots on these hiking trails. If you enjoy fishing, you can head down to the dam where you will be able to catch some blue kurper or carp, or even take a swim. When it comes to wildlife, there are lots of Njala and some Blesbok roaming inside the campsite. We did not see any other antelope. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars there are plenty of bird species at this park.

Camping at Ruah Park was an enjoyable experience. It is a beautiful campsite and first time campers will find this park to their liking. Given the number of stands available, it is not as busy as some the other larger campsites which means you should for most part have a quiet peaceful camping experience.

What to expect: Spacious campsites with modern bathroom facilities and beautiful mountain views.
