GO CAMPING! IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

"The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7

Since I can remember I enjoyed camping. My first camping expedition was in my grandmother’s backyard and from there on it slowly progressed to hiking trips culminating in one of the most epic hikes that you can do in Southern Africa, the Fish River Canyon. Now that I am older, I prefer solo camping trips in the bushveld where I can sit, relax, read a book and just spend time alone with nature.

Camping is something that everyone should at least try once. It is an inexpensive form of holiday and South Africa has lots of safe places to go camping. There are hundreds of beautiful resorts, caravan parks, and bush lodges that will give you that needed break at affordable prices.

When you camp there are no traffic jams, potholes, palicades, fences and alarm systems. Just you and how it used to be in the very beginning. Camping is nature's hotel. When you book into this hotel you are provided with the opportunity to get away from busy city life and focus on other things that are not normally part of your daily routine.

At this hotel you will spend far less time on social media. Your mind slows down and you will find yourself doing other kinds of activites like walking, fishing, reading a book or maybe just sitting and enjoying nature's splendour.

Camping reminds us that being out in nature is an important part of maintaining a good state of mental health and wellbeing. It brings us in contact with our planet, reminds us where we come from, and who we are as human beings. Out in the wild under a starry sky, that Saturday night braai suddenly turns into something spectacular.

We can only truly understand what it means to care for our environment when we spend time with nature, and what better way to do it than to go camping.
